Global Youth Service Day: April 23rd-25th, 2010/Concord Road Activities

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of children and youth to improve their communities through service. Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest service event in the world and is now celebrated in over 100 countries.

Together with our school Administration and the PTA, the Ardsley Cares Committee and the Concord Road School Student Council has come up with some service ideas and projects to help our community participate in GYSD.

We are happy to announce that the following opportunities will be available to Concord Road families.

Collect and Sort Items for the Elmsford Animal Shelter: Beginning on April 19th and ending on April 23rd, we will be collecting new and used items for the animal shelter. The following are items that will be accepted: blankets, towels, sheets, and wet dog/cat food. These items can be dropped off in the front hallway of Concord Road.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers (students with parents) to help sort the collected items on Friday, April 23rd after school. (1 hour)

Clean up Concord Road: Join us on Saturday, April 24th* at 10:00 a.m. to help clean up areas around the school. (1 hour)

Planting at Concord Road: Join us on Saturday, April 24th* at 10:00 a.m. to help make Concord Road beautiful by planting flowers and shrubbery - a great spring activity. (2 hours)

Please note that all activities require adult supervision. Registration is required for the events as space is limited. Please contact Judy Cooperman at judycooperman@gmail.com to register - and please specify which activity you are interested in participating in with your child(ren).

* The rain date for the Cleaning and Planting activities will be Sunday, April 25th.
